Swedish Massage

Swedish massage, essentially, dictates that all strokes move towards the heart. In other words, if you were massaging the arm, one wouldn’t pull towards the fingers, but stroke or push toward the shoulder (heart).

Swedish massage is exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Valves in the veins are designed to keep blood from pooling back to the heart. Excessive pressure on these valves could compromise their function. Swedish massage theory promulgates stroking toward the heart to avoid this potential damage.

Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy. Swedish massage is the most predominant example of traditionalEuropean massage and it is the most commonly used method in the United States. Swedish massage is so ubiquitous that in Europe that it is known as Classic Massage. Swedish massage is just your normal relaxing type massage. Swedish massage is done with the client covered by a sheet, a technique called draping. Developed in the nineteenth century at the University of Stockholm, Swedish massage is the most popular massage technique. The Swedish massage is the first massage that we teach in massage school and most schools will agree that that’s what they teach first because this is the basis of all massage. Developed by Per Henrik Ling in Sweden in the 1820s, the Swedish Massage is the basis of many other western forms of massage.

Swedish massage is meant to be a quiet, relaxing experience, and therapists often play soft music in the background while administering the massage. At our nationwide family of schools, Swedish massage is taught as a fundamental method, and it is the main healing touch many clients think of when they think of massage. Carolina Swedish Massage is just the answer to your problem.

Swedish massage is defined in large part by the original strokes that compose its method: effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (striking), and frictions (rubbing), with vibration added later. Swedish massage is built around five basic strokes – effleurage (gliding stroke), petrissage (kneading stroke), friction (steady pressure), tapotement (drumming), and vibration or jostling. Swedish massage is known for its long gliding strokes, kneading strokes, friction strokes, and percussion as well as joint movements that feel great while improving range of motion. The deepest work in Swedish massage is accomplished with friction, where the therapist works deep into the muscles with the fingers, elbow, or base of the palm.

In Conclusion

Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. Swedish massage is the therapeutic massage standard for much of the Western world. Swedish massage is the most requested type of massage. Swedish massage is the basis of all massage. Setting aside the argument that Swedish massage is a misnomer and would be more historically correct if it were called classic massage, Peter Ling was not the creator of Swedish massage. The aim of Swedish massage is to sedate the nervous system, bringing the body back into balance.
