Russian Massage

The Russian Massage stroke involves forming an “S” in the muscle of the client with the palms or fingers of the therapists hands in such a way that allows the muscle to slide through the therapists hands in the shape of an “S” at all times. The muscle must also be lifted slightly away from the bone or center of body mass while still maintaining the “S” shape as the stroke glides the entire length of the muscle.

Russian massage is a system of therapeutic and sports massage developed in the former Soviet Union.  Minimally invasive and profoundly relaxing, Russian massage is a great healing therapy, so why not give Russian massage at Ron’s Rub Massage Salt Lake a try.

Massage was not studied or used scientifically in Russia until 1860.  Massage, bodywork, and somatic therapies are often complex mixtures of holistic healing practices involving physical, emotional and spiritual components.  Massage influences the body by means of mechanical stimulations provided to the tissues by effleurage (stroking), friction (rubbing), petrissage (kneading), and vibration.  Developed in the former Soviet Union, Russian massage is a system of therapeutic and sports massage.  Russian physiologists found all movements of massage function on the basis of neurohormone and neuroendocrine reflexes.  The massage therapy is crucial to rehabilitation and the massage therapy department is often the largest in Russian hospitals and clinics.

Many cultures around the world developed forms of massage therapy, including the ancient peoples of China, India, and Greece.  Ailments said to benefit from massage therapy include asthma, insomnia, arthritis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, hip sprains and strains, rotator cuff injuries, myofascial pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, headache, spastic colon, colic, constipation, and immune function disorders.  Adverse side effects from massage therapy are quite rare, and are usually related to unusually vigorous methods or used when contraindicated.  There is no predetermined time for the massage or massage therapy as the actual length will depend on the reason for the massage, the patient’s response to the therapy, and many other factors.  The massage therapy sessions usually stop once the patient has recovered from their injury or illness, but for people having the massage for strictly relaxation purposes then single or periodic sessions are sufficient, however regular massage will help the body to stay relaxed and invigorated.  It brings peace of mind and spirit and, coupled with hands on aromatherapy massage, is one of the most powerful ways to calm and soothe your body and spirit.

Relaxing and invigorating Russian massage therapy can bring life to the tired body. Since Russian massage is considered less invasive and more relaxing than many other forms of massage therapy it is perfect for non therapeutic relaxation as well.  Russian massage uses four principal techniques: petrissage, a stretching or kneading motion, effleurage, a gliding, relaxing stroke, friction, a rubbing action and  vibration, a continuous-motion stroke ranging from very fast to very slow.  As well as being deeply relaxing and a lovely way to spoil yourself, Russian massage is also great for the health of your body.  This beautiful and deeply relaxing style it is fantastic for letting go of stress and tension.
